Bon Voyage

Just a quick post from me today. A very very very good friend is moving another country. I'm happy for her, of course. Lots of new opportunities, a new job, new home. It's very exciting and I am sure she'll have a great time. But I can't help but feel bummed out for myself. I'll miss our frequent phone calls, lunches, trips to craft fairs, lunches, cake shops, Starbucks, lunches...the list goes on. We eat a lot and talk a lot...mostly about other people. I'll miss her very much.

I made this card and gave it to her yesterday. In a couple of hours she'll be on a plane headed west.

A very simple card. I embossed the background using CB's D'Vine Swirls, adding a touch of
colour with Promarkersand a little Stickles Stardust.  The hot-air balloons and greeting
are from Clearly Besotted's Up In The Air set. Inks: Versacolor Scarlet, Turquoise and
Memento ParisDusk. And to finish: some twine tied in a bow.

And a simple sentiment on the inside.

I'm also linking up my card at these challenges:

Make It Monday #176: AG
Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge: AG with String / Twine
Rhedd & Rosie's Challenge #25: AG

I hope you're having a beautiful Wednesday. It's cold, wet and dark here today.... yep, it's still winter. Thanks for stopping by and stay warm, my friends!

Happy Lunar New Year

The Lunar New Year falls on February 1st. It's the year of the Horse. We've been invited by our dear friends to celebrate this auspicious day with them at their home in Oporto. There will be loads of lovely Chinese goodies. Yes, I am a greedy girl who is bursting with anticipation!

We'll  load up the wagon and head north bright and early on Saturday. Oporto is about 320km (200 miles) and we usually make the trip in a little 3 hours. Since there'll be unlimited feasting, I'll skip breakfast.... and oh, it's only polite a make a little card for them, right?

Here's a skinny tall card with  some gorgeous origami papers from my stash.
I've had these papers for ages.  They are so delicate and luxurious with the
gold accents... perfect for the Lunar New Year. I also added some vellum,
embossed with Swiss Dots folder. And since it's the New Year, there's lots of
bling and some red ribbon for good luck.

The lanterns and sentiment are from WMS Asian GardenAdditions set.  I stamped
the lanterns with Versacolor Cardinal; The black accents and sentiment with
Versafine Black Onyx. The lanterns were adhered with 3mm, 2mm and 1mm foam
tape. I inked the sentiment with TH Barn Door.

Here's the inside. Just had to stamp another lantern!

I'm celebrating the Lunar New Year with these good folks:

Mojo Monday #330: Tall & Skinny Sketch - 3-1/5" x 6" card

Make My Monday: Eastern Promise
Eureka Stamps #74: AG
The Ribbon Girl: AG + Ribbon
The Squirrel & The Fox #62: Use Embellishments - ribbon & bling

It's the last week of the month...can you believe that?! The good news is: pay day is around the corner... and that's my silver lining! I hope you are filled with happy thoughts today too. Thanks for stopping by.

52 {C}CT January Technique Challenge

It's time for our weekly 52 {Christmas}Card Challenge, my friends. The theme chosen by our January Hostess, Mynnette Kitchen,  is "Double Embossing". We'd like you to create a Christmas card employing Dry Embossing (with embossing folders or stencils) and Heat / Wet Embossing (with embossing ink and powders).

The DT has come up with some spectacular cards and you should check them out for inspiration.... gorgeous creations, I tell ya!

Here's my offering for this challenge. I hope it inspires you to play along:

No patterned papers on this card. Embossing takes centre stage. The image
and greeting are from Chocolate Baroque's Pears and Baubles stamp set.
I dry embossed the cherry CS using Derice Square EF. I also inked the
edges of the cream CS with TH's Vintage Photo.

I heat embossed the pear with gold EP, did some inking with TH's Peeled
Paint and fussy cut the pear. Then I adhered some teeny tiny gold bling to

the flourishes in thepear...for a little festive sparkle.  Finally, a twine bow
to finish the card.

On the inside I stamped a sentiment from Chocolate Baroque's Warm
Christmas Greetings set.

You'll find this fruity number at these challenges too:

Splendiferous Creations: Make Your Own Background
Brown Sugar #78: Embossing
CHNC Extra January Challenge: AG Christmas
Christmas Cards All Year 'Round: AG Christmas
ABC Christmas: B for Bare Essentials - bling & twine

Now it's your turn to show us your embossing prowess. :-) In order to be considered for Top Honour and Honourable Mentions your card must follow this week's theme and you must link it to the 52 {Christmas}Card Throwdown Challenge Blog by 6pm GMT on Friday, 31 January.

Polka Doodles #04: Shop 'Till You Drop

Friday is here at long last! And if that wasn't enough excitement, there's also a brand new challenge waiting for you at the Polka Doodles Challenge Blog. This one is quite special.... "Shop 'Till You Drop". Tell me that didn't make you all tingly inside! But as always, if you're not in the mood for shopping (seriously?!), you can make anything you like.

A friend just had a baby girl and I bought the little darling two pairs of booties. And to house these baby shoes I made a gift bag with papers, floral elements and a sentiment from the Dollie Daydream Girl Talk CD. Forget "mama" and "dada",  "shoes" and "shopping" will be this little girl's first words!

The bag measures 4" wide x 6" tall x 2". The central panel is 1.5" wide.
The handles are made of pink ribbon.
The flowers are from the Build-a-Fleur file in the CD. I fussy cut the flowers
and stitched them together with a buttonin the middle. Then I added some
green ribbons and adhered the whole lot down.

And this is what it looks like from behind. Love that combo of polkadots and
flowers. This CD has so many gorgeous papers.

I'm taking my little bag over to these challenges:

4 Crafty Girls #10: AG
Crafting By Designs: Get Your Girl On
Crafting For All Seasons #69: For The Girls
Party Time Tuesdays #156: Ribbon
Make It Monday #176: AG

I hope you'll be able to play along in this challenge. If you don't feel like making a "Shop Till You Drop" themed project, feel free to opt for "Anything Goes". Please make sure you link your work over at the Polka Doodles Challenge Blog by noon GMT on 2 February 2014.

Thanks for stopping today and I'm looking forward to seeing your projects.

You Make Me Smile

Oh no, it's Monday again. Is it me or does the weekend just whooosh by at sonic speed? Maybe what we really need is a 3-day weekend. ... sigh ... Until such time, I shall take comfort in playing Mojo Monday.

Today I made a card for my hubby. He can share it with Peanut since both of them have been behaving very well all week. It'll serve as a Valentine's day card. We're not the gushing sort, but I think this card will let him know what I really think of him. (I hope he has the good sense to continue dropping his socks in the laundry bin!)

The papers are from WMRK's Travel Light pad. As this is a
masculine card, I'm keeping the embellies to a minimum
with just some twine.

The balloons are from Clearly Besotted's Make A Wish set,
stamped with Versacolor Tropical Green, Hyacinth and
Memento Elderberry. The sentiment is from the "Tag Along"
set stamped with  Versafine Black Onyx.

On the inside I stamped a couple more balloons in keeping
with card front.

I'm taking my card to these linky parties:

That's from me today. I hope you'll be able to stop by tomorrow for a yummy Tuesday Throwdown post. Thanks for stopping by and a have a ovely Monday.

Christmas Card Club #2: Cooking Up A Storm

Woohoo! The Christmas Card Club girls are back and this week we are "Cooking Up A Storm". The lovely Lizzie has decided that we should play with our food for this challenge and I couldn't resist whipping up a trio of festive cupcakes.

Another square card from me ... and again, no patterned papers either.
I embossed some cream CS with CB's Swiss Dots folder and inked the
edges with TH Antique Linen. The greeting is from WMS Say It Loud Winter
stamped with Memento Rhubarb Stalk.  To finish, I adhered 4 red bling
in each corner.

These cupcakes are from Chocolate Baroque's Family Christmas.
I coloured them with Promarkers and added some Stardust Stickles.

Inside I used a sentiment and stars from WMS A Cottage Christmas

52 {C}CT January Recipe Challenge

Good morning, my friends! This is an exciting post for me - it's my first as a DT member of 52 {Christmas} Card Throwdown. I am thrilled and honoured to be a part of this talented group of ladies. I started playing with them way back in 2012. Having admired their work all along, this post is pretty special to me personally. Ok, I'll stop gushing now and get on with the challenge.

Our hostess for the month of January is Mynnette Kitchen. If you're a frequent player, you'll know that the third week of every month is the Recipe Challenge. The brief is: Monochromatic, CAS, Ribbon and Rhinestone.

Something CAS? Uh-oh! You know that my CAS efforts are hit and miss. Still, I'm up for a challenge. And I hope you are too because this is a great  one. Here's my wintery creation:

I'm going with shades of blue. Starting with some emboss resist for the background using snowflakes from various Chocolate Baroque sets, Versamark and TH Stormy Sky, Fades Jeans, Broken China and Tumbled Glass.  Then I stamped little snowflakes with Versamagic Baby Blue chalk ink.

The focal "image" is this sentiment from WMS Compliments of the Season, stamped with Memento Paris Dusk. To finish, some pale blue sheer ribbon and teeny tiny blue bling.

On the inside is a sentiment from WMS A Cottage Christmas

Now it's your turn. In order to be considered for Top honour and Honourable Mentions your card must follow this week's theme and you must link it to the 52 {Christmas}Card Throwdown Challenge Blog by 6pm GMT on Friday, 24 January.

I'm also playing along with these challenges:

Cutting' and Stampin' #14: AG Winter
Kaboodle Doodles #206: Winter Wonderland

Going Green

Friday at last, my friends, and what a week it has been! I'm really looking forward to a lazy weekend.... and some good weather. But I'll settle for a relaxing weekend. Here's a green birthday card I made for my friend. She works for our local recycling agency. You think she'll approve?  ;-)

Dabbling in CAS again. For the background I used Clearly Besotted's Leafy Accents and Versacolor Sage.  The central panel I used CB's Geometric Style and Versacolor Tropical Green and Bamboo.

The sentiment is from WMS Compact Sentiments stamped with Memento Northern Pine. To finish, some sheer green ribbon and  3 green bling.

I liked the background stamping in the front and decided to take it inside too.

You'll find this card at these challenges:

Tuesday Morning Sketches #232: Sketch + Monochromatic Twist - greens
Make It Monday 174: AG
WMS Fanatics #9: Fabric - ribbon
Milk & Coffee: Monochromatic - greens
Scrapbooker PhD #6: Use Stamps (at least 2)
Sieze The Birthday: Colouring (optional)
Brown Sugar Challenge #77: AG
Sister Act Challenge #40: AG

Thanks for stopping by today. The weather here is abysmal. It's cold and there is ice everywhere. Throw an extra log in the fire and hang on to your hot water bottle. That's what I plan to do. See you tomorrow with some exciting news...(well, it's exciting for me!)

Polka Doodles Tutorial: Bookmark

Good morning, crafty friends. Today I have a cute little project to share with you which you can make for yourself or as a gift for someone. It's simple, does not require any fancy tools AND you can use up your scraps.

So let's get started:

1. You will need a large (at least 2") paper clip (coated or uncoated), 4 punched / die-cut circles and a few flowers.

You can use die-cut / hand-cut flowers or ready made flowers. I'm using these spiral flowers from Polka Doodles new Dollie Daydream Girl Talk CD.

2. If you're using spiral flowers, roll them up as shown below. Remember these are going on a paper clip, so roll 'em tight and don't make them too big.

3. Next, using some tacky glue ( eg Tombow), adhere the leaves to one of the round bases. Make sure the leaves are on the top half only so that they show on the outer edge of the book.... it being a bookmark! ;-)

4. Then, slap on the smaller circle and just wait a couple of minutes for the glue to dry a little.

5. When it's firm to the touch, add more glue and arrange your rolled flowers and any other embellishments.  I used 3 spiral roses form Polka Doodles Dollie Daydream Girl Talk Build a Fleur and added some ribbon and a few bling to fill in the gaps.

6. Take your large paperclip and attach it to the other round base. I'm using a large glue dot. You can also use hot glue. Wet glue is not advisable because you want the base to be firm, dry strong enough to hold the weight of the posy.

7. Attach the posy to the paper clip base.

 8. This is what it looks like from behind. Adhere the smaller circle to reinforce base.

9. And here it is in action. Now you see why I said keep the leafy arrangement on the top half!

That's a fun little project and pretty any-occasion gift. I hope you'll give it a go and use up all those bits and bobs you've got lying about the craft room floor. AND it's the perfect excuse to buy the Dollie Daydream Girl Talk CD!

Love-ly Monday

Hello there! It's time for our weekly Monday meet-up. I'll keep it brief's been a crazy ol' day so far and I'm not crossing off items from my to-do list as fast as I'd hoped. Still, mustn't complain - I did find the time to craft!

I made a lovey-dovey card. It's not for my husband. No sir! He conveniently kicked his socks under the bed this morning, which Peanut discovered and... the fate of those socks were sealed. Remember what happened to our Christmas tree? Enough said. So, no card for hubby, no cookie for Peanut and time out for both. Instead, I'm sending this card off to my sister. She doesn't leave her socks lying about the house.

The papers are from Papermania's Parkstone Pink 6x6 pad.
I wrapped some sheer white ribbon across the horizontal panel.

The stamp butterfly and sentiment are from Clearly Besotted's Butterfly Additions set,
which I heat embossed onto vellum with fine white EP.  I cut the vellum with SB Elegant Oval
die and inked the edges with TH Spun Sugar. I also went to town with some bling.

On the inside I stamped a butterfly border with Versamagic Baby Pink.

Why don't you join me in these challenges too:

Here's the card I made fro my friend's daughter. She'll be celebrating her 18th birthday at the end of the month and this Fashion Diva is rather partial to shopping. (Aren't they we all at that any age!) Polka Doodles' stylish new Dollie Daydream Girl Talk Collection has all I need to make this dream card for her.

I made a 6" square card with papers, sentiments and pre-coloured digis from the Dollie Daydream Girl Talk CD - perfect for when you need a card in an instant!

For embellies I used bling and some polkadot ribbon. The card is almost flat and perfect for sending by mail

Here is the inside. This CD has so many cute elements and witty sentiments - you'll be spoilt for choice.

I'm grabbing my bag and brolly and heading off to these linky parties:
