It's actually easier then you think and there are a couple of great tutorials over at Splitcoaststampers to guide you: Spotlighting Technique and Reverse Spotlighting Technique.
A Day For Daisies has so very generously provided the DT with some cute digis to play with and, hopefully, inspire you to have a go at this technique. For my project I'm using an adorable digi called Night Time Prayer.
